Probably still have a few old NiMH packs that wouldn't hold a charge anymore in a drawer somewhere :) This review summarizes my initial tests with and use of the EOS-1Ds Mark II. I have been using an EOS-1Ds for over 2 years and have been very pleased with its performance. The Mark II provides substantially increased performance over the original 1Ds in many areas. However, image quality in prints is only slightly improved in the 1Ds Mark II Canon 1D Mark II with 500mm f/4L IS lens at ISO 200 Notes from the Field. Shooting a thousand frames with the Mark II alongside a 1Ds over the period of a few days was both fun and instructional. Here are some varied thoughts on operational issues as well as functional differences between these cameras. The Viewfinder The 1Ds I used, bought in February 2004, seemed to have two firmware and software flaws as explained by the users manual and my personal experience: 1.) In RAW + JPG mode it forgets to show the JPG indication on the LCD (very confusing!), and 2.) for some reason the Canon software when downloading the camera files saves the JPG as .JPG (good Designed for Profesionals: The EOS-1Ds Mark II is based on the highly acclaimed EOS-1Ds, but satisfies the higher demands of today's professionals.
